KTS Hope Ministries, founded by Karen Stevenson M.D., M.Div., is a ministry that is focused on providing Pastoral and Spiritual Care for women in ministry. Women in ministry experience all of the stresses that male pastors experience, in addition to their own unique experiences. Like their male counterparts, they experience significant demands on their time, congregational conflicts, and church politics, etc. They may also experience a sense of isolation from their male peers, and in some cases, from their female peers as well. A woman pastor may also have to deal with their congregation’s opinions and expectations about women in ministry. These congregational attitudes can result in a lack of support from the very community that she has been called to minister to.

What happens in the soul and spirit of a person, is manifested in the body. People tend live out their emotional and spiritual struggles in their bodies, hence the epidemic of stress related diseases in our culture. The soul and spirit of God was manifest in the body of Jesus Christ, and like our Lord and Savior, God has called each person to live the abundant life – in body, soul, and spirit. 3 John:2 tells us, “ Beloved, I wish above all things that thou may prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers.”

Dr. Karen Stevenson is a board certified psychiatrist who received her medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. She went on to complete her residency training in Psychiatry at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and her specialty training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh’s Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She received her Master of Divinity degree at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, and went on to complete a residency in Clinical Pastoral Education at the Atlanta Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Dr. Stevenson practiced Adult, Child, and Adolescent Psychiatry for twenty years prior to attending seminary. Her ministry focus has been primarily centered on the mental and spiritual care of women. She has written and spoken extensively about the interface between Spirituality and Medicine, especially as it concerns women. Her ministry has focused on the impact of various traumas on women, especially the mental health and societal consequences of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and intergenerational trauma as well. Dr. Stevenson is called to inspire, encourage, and empower her clients to overcome their life challenges so that they may live with passion, power, and purpose in Christ Jesus.
