Brigadeiros [bree-gah-de-roh] were first made in the 1940s. During the lean years around World War II. Access to fruits and sweets were limited, hence the need to get creative with just a few simple ingredients—cocoa powder, unsalted butter, and condensed milk. Thanks to a few ladies in Rio de Janeiro, Brigadeiros was born. They named the candy after Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes, a revolutionary, and high ranking member of the Brazilian Air Force. Today, Brigadeiros are more popular than ever and have made there way here to Saratoga Springs.
