EDMONTON - The book on Rennie Curren is 142 pages long.
He should know, he wrote it.
The Edmonton Eskimos linebacking hopeful is also a published author, his journey from highly-decorated Georgia Bulldog to out-of-work NFLer on the shelves for about six weeks now.
“The response from people has been great, even some guys on the team have read it,” said the 24-year-old former Tennessee Titan and Tampa Bay Buccaneer. “I got an e-mail from a soldier in Afghanistan who told me he read it during his 12-hour guard shift. As a junior he led the SEC in tackles and was named a First Team All-American by CBS Sports.
He came out before his senior year, got selected 97th overall in the 2010 draft and his NFL career was on its way.
A year later the Titans changed coaches and Curren was caught in the purge. After a year in Tampa Bay, same thing: New coach, see ya later.
Then the leads dried up. Then there was no football. Then reality set in.
What do I do?
He started to write.
